At Preston Park Montessori Academy we understand that in every stage of childhood comes a unique set of needs, abilities, opportunities for growth and self-mastery. We have adopted the Montessori Methods of education for children anges 18moths to 6 years. Each classroom has its own curriculum, schedule, and procedures, designed to appropriately accommodate both the collective and individual needs of its children. In addition, we offer an early development curriculum for our youngest students, ages 6 weeks to 18 months.
Under the parents , news and calendar sections of this website, you will find updated information each month; including activities, special events, and menus. Parents will receive semi-monthly newsletters which lay-out the curriculum, skills we are working on, and suggestions for collaborating activities families can enjoy together at home.
We offer a variety of programs to meet your childcare needs. Please find our programs broken out by area and age group below:
- Lower Primary Classroom(older 2's and 3's)
The montessori teacher introduces the basic montesori materials or presentations and works hard to improve on their focus level in a role -model method. This classroom is designed to help children get potty trained.
- Primary ( 3 - 5 years)
The Montessori primary classroom is a "living room" for children. Children choose their work from among the self-correcting materials displayed on open shelves, and they work in specific work areas. Over a period of time, the children develop into a "normalized community," working with high concentration and few interruptions. Normalization is the process whereby a child moves from being undisciplined to self-disciplined, from disordered to ordered, from distracted to focused, through work in the environment. The process occurs through repeated work with materials that captivate the child's attention. For some children this inner change may take place quite suddenly, leading to deep concentration.
- Lower primary classroom 4-6 years
This classroom is programed for the children who will be attenting the Kindergarden classroom in the near future. The guide or the montessori tearher works to meet the child 's interest. The class is designed to build on the academic concept and is equipped with great advance materials .
